A key easy step, according to the report, is to change the lighting schedule to synchronize use with the lowest consumption and demand cycles rates from utilities. Another easy step: Not running air conditioners simultaneously will reduce demand and lower costs. Closely monitoring light direction – ensuring that it is reaching the plants, and not shining on walls and floors – is another simple way to cut waste and save money. A finally suggestion on adding to savings is making sure that reflectors are working and aimed correctly.

In August, The Wall Street Journal highlighted Illumitex’s focus on providing lighting for the growth of medical marijuana. The post said that LEDs can be customized to produce wavelengths that promote growth of specific plants. Illumitex’s LEDs generally are used to grow tomatoes. The company said, however, that medical marijuana is a new specialty. That strategy helped the company secure $16 million in funding during the spring, the story said.
