albeo LEDSwitching to solid-state LED high-bay lighting has helped Dole Fresh Produce Co. save about 95 percent on lighting energy at a particular cold storage warehouse.

The lighting retrofit from Albeo Technologies Inc. involved replacing 400W metal halide fixtures with Albeo C-Series High Bay fixtures mounted at 28 feet.

After the retrofit, light levels nearly doubled in the cold storage warehouse, and the use of integrated motion sensors, along with the lower energy draw from LED lights, is helping deliver 95 percent energy savings, according to a press release.

“Cold storage with sub-zero temperatures is a demanding environment for lighting,” said David Shankel, Engineering Director at Dole, in the release. “There is continuous activity inside the warehouse moving and staging product. To maximize worker productivity, safety, and energy efficiency we require high light levels with no start delay, and motion sensors.”

Arriving at the final lighting solution has involved some adjustments.

Since the Dole installation in January, Albeo has upgraded the lighting to deliver over 13,000 lumens at 175 watts, according to the release. Additional horizontal and vertical light distribution is gained by using optics for racked aisle warehouse applications.
