For the first time, Energy Manager Today named a Person of the Year chosen from nominations for the EMT 75. At the Environmental Leader & Energy Manager Conference in Denver, Business Sector Media’s Tim Hermes and sponsor Sparkfund CMO Angela Ferrante announced that John Marler, VP of energy and environment for the Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) received the recognition.
“With the Person of the Year, we wanted to recognize the up-and-comers, the next level of rising stars,” Hermes said. Marler is responsible for energy and environment at the sports and live entertainment company AEG. The company has a global network of venues, sports franchises, music brands, integrated entertainment districts, ticketing platforms, and global sponsorship activations.
“This is very flattering and very surprising. When I found out that I was even on the list of 75, I kind of did a double take because when you look at the individuals represented, the companies represented, I was just happy to be on that list,” Marler said.
He thanked AEG’s parent company for supporting sustainability as well as his collegues, his wife and kids. Marler also praised Schneider Electric, which has had a partnership with AEG since 2009. “They handle our energy procurement, our utility bill management, and our sustainability data warehouse,” he said. “We simply couldn’t do what we do what we do without their help and support.”
In addition, he gave a shout-out to all of AEG’s operators and contacts throughout the worldwide organization. “We have venues from Sweden to Australia, and we’re able to get things done because we have hard-working people who really believe in energy efficiency and sustainability,” he said. “I’m really just representing a large organization of passionate indivduals.”
