Holloman AFB and El Paso Electric Teaming on Solar

air forceHolloman Air Force Base and El Paso Electric are teaming on a 5 MW solar facility, according to The Albuquerque Journal.

The cost of the project – which consists of field solar panels and associated equipment — is estimated to be $13 million, with groundbreaking set for next month. The new facility will be ready for use next year. The story says that the facility will be El Paso Electric’s first to solely serve Holloman. It was approved by the New Mexico Public Regulations Commission on August 10.

The contract calls for the base to get 25 percent of its energy through renewables by 2025, according to the story.

Honeywell and Oklahoma Gas & Electric have agreed to work together on a $19.1 million facility modernization project for the assembly plant at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, OK. The effort is in line with the Air Force’s goal of reducing energy consumption by 25 percent by 2025.
