HomeDepotBulbsWith incandescent light bulb sales set to fade into the sunset in a couple of weeks, Home Depot tracked sales of energy efficient bulbs across the US. The building supply giant says it’s the world’s largest seller of light bulbs and released an unprecedented local look at adoption of energy-efficient bulbs.

The store combined its US store sales numbers with 2010 Census data for a per capita look at which areas of the country are the top adopters of LED and compact fluorescent (CFL) bulbs

·        Top 10 markets for energy-efficient bulb consumption per capita:
o        Atlanta, GA
o        Boston, MA
o        Hartford, CT
o        Miami/Ft. Lauderdale/West Palm Beach, FL
o        Orlando, FL
o        Pittsburgh, PA
o        Sacramento, CA
o        San Francisco Bay
o        Seattle, WA
o        Washington D.C.

·        Rebate breakdown:
o        27 of the 50 markets featured on the map offer a rebate for purchasing LEDs or CFLs
o        Eight of the top 10 markets offered rebates for LEDs and CFLs, and four of those offered rebates for both
o        The only two non-rebate markets in the top 10 are both in Florida: Miami/Ft. Lauderdale/West Palm Beach and Orlando

·        Top five markets by total energy-efficient bulb consumption:
o        Chicago, IL
o        Los Angeles, CA
o        Miami/Ft. Lauderdale/West Palm Beach, FL
o        New Jersey
o        Washington D.C.
