Product Announcement: Otis Energy Efficient Escalators Hit the Market

Otis, a manufacturer of people moving products, is introducing an energy efficient global escalator product, the Otis Link commercial escalator. The Link escalator offers upgrades on quality, safety and reliability.

“Our unwavering commitment to safety and quality continues with the Otis Link escalator. This reimagined product is the result of multi-discipline teams of product experts, engineers and operations leads from around the globe working together to enhance our escalator product for our customers,” said Robin Fiala, vice president, Marketing and Strategic Planning for Otis.

With ReGen drives, Link escalators use 60% less energy compared to escalators without regenerative drives and consume 98% less oil with our high efficiency lubrication system compared to manual lubrication systems.  In addition, 90% of the materials used to make Link escalators can be recycled at end of life.

Link escalators are designed for easy maintenance and maximum uptime.  Using the new Otis proprietary Dr. Step diagnostic tool, Otis mechanics can quickly diagnose escalator deterioration and assess escalator performance and quality during a routine service visit.

In 2014, Energy Manager Today reported that escalator maker KONE updated its EcoMod product, which offers an approach to replacing the entire workings of an escalator by installing technology directly into the existing truss. The updated version can reduce energy consumption by 20 to 40% and oil consumption by nearly 95% (18 liters vs. 600 liters) over a 10-year span and offers a 25-30-year lifecycle.
