The Cost Plus Plaza shopping center in Larkspur, CA, now is using electricity from a 345 KW direct current solar power system.
The system was developed by Alta Energy for the facility at the request of real estate firm Rawson, Blue & Leon. The press release says that the rooftop system will generate more than 540,000 kWh for the 53,000-square foot facility. It is expected to yield about $50,000 — $0.94 per square foot – in revenue.
The press release says that the energy will be sold to MCE, a local public electricity provider, through a Feed-In-Tariff contract. These contracts are designed to encourage local renewable energy projects.
Alta Energy specializes in such projects. In May, 2015, the company completed a 504.7 kW solar generation system at Westfield Century City shopping center in Los Angeles. The project represents the sixth solar PV system deployed at Westfield Corporation properties and managed by Alta Energy.
