Austin, Texas-based Summit Hotel Properties, a leading U.S. hotel owner in the upscale segment, announced on April 6 that the company has chosen the Ecova Energy & Sustainability Management Platform to minimize utility costs across 82 properties with a total of 11,095 guestrooms located in 23 states.
Spokane, Washington-based Ecova, a provider of energy management and facility optimization software, will provide Summit with several services – including expense and data management, energy supply management, historical facility energy use analysis, and energy performance reporting.
Ecova claims to maintain “the largest database of utility data for the hospitality market – managing energy cost and consumption for nearly 2,000 hospitality facilities, from economy motels to luxury hotels.”
The advantage to customers, Ecova says, is that they can use the data to compare multiple sites, instead of looking at utility expenses on a property-by-property basis.
That is becoming increasingly important, because a full half of accommodation and lodging professionals surveyed for Ecova’s 2016 Energy and Sustainability Predictions: Findings from Leading Professionals reported that they expected energy costs to rise through the next 12 months. That’s a daunting prediction for hospitality businesses, where electricity use typically accounts for 60 to 70 percent of utility costs.
“Sustainability matters to the communities surrounding our hotels and to our guests who are increasingly looking to support environmentally conscious businesses,” said Summit COO Craig Aniszewski, adding, “The work we are doing with Ecova will help us reduce consumption. We will be able to view and manage our utility and energy data in one platform, and identify broad trends across our portfolio.”03
