Florida Senate Passes Bill to Exempt C&I Solar from Property Taxes

In the Florida Senate, the Communications, Energy & Public Utilities Committee voted unanimously (5-0) on February 7 to approve a measure (SB 90) sponsored by State Senator Jeff Brandes (R-District 24) that exempts solar and renewable energy devices from property taxes on real and tangible personal property installed on commercial and industrial property.

In the Sunshine State primary elections on August 30, Amendment 4– a constitutional amendment intended to advance the use of solar power in Florida – passed with a majority of more than 70 percent of the vote.

Amendment 4 in Florida Would Expand Solar Property Tax Exemptions to C&I Ratepayers

In an August 30 referendum, Florida voters will cast their ballots on Amendment 4 – choosing whether to expand property tax exemptions for solar and wind generation to commercial and industrial ratepayers, in addition to residential owner-generators.
