Energy Storage in Commercial Buildings Market to Reach ‘$7.5bn in 2022’

Revenue for the energy storage in commercial buildings market will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 8.6 percent over the next 10 years, from $3.3 billion in 2012 to a $7.5 billion in 2022, according to a new Pike Research report.

Energy Storage in Commercial Buildings says that growth will be pretty evenly spread throughout three regions: North America, Europe, and the rest of the world, led by Asia Pacific. The majority of the revenue will come from the uninterruptible power supply (UPS) energy storage system segment.

Energy Curtailment Specialists Expands Demand Response Program

Energy Curtailment Specialists has won a Pacific Gas and Electric contract to expand its PowerPay demand response program in California.

The contract is intended to growECS’ PowerPay customer participation in the PG&E service area by 60 percent. ECS says it has paid more than $150 million to program participants over the past 12 years, and anticipates an allocation of an additional $40 million to PowerPay participants this year.

HP, IBM and Intel Join JouleX-Ready Technology Partner Program

With the addition of companies including HP, IBM, Intel and Canon, enterprise energy management systems provider JouleX says it has increased the number of partners in its JouleX-Ready Technology program more than fivefold since its introduction in May 2012.

Some of the other newest partners to join the JouleX-Ready program during the last several months are ABB, Dimension Data, Enterasys, GreenPrint, Juniper Networks, NuLEDS, Racktivity, Raritan, Server Technology and Talisen Technologies, the company says.

Commercial CHP Will ‘More Than Double by 2022’

Annual installations of commercial combined heat and power systems will reach nearly 39 GW and $2.2 billion in revenue in 2012, according to a new Pike Research report, Combined Heat and Power for Commercial Buildings.

Global capacity will more than double by 2022, the study concludes, reaching 79.5 GW (see chart). This represents $11.2 billion in annual revenue, led by the US, Europe and Asia Pacific, which Pike expects to represent 92 percent of the 79.5 GW installed.

Building energy management systems (BEMS) for utility customers’ global spending will reach $41 million in 2012, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 29.2 percent through 2020, when the market will reach $319 million worldwide, according to a Pike Research report.

The US will remain the largest market over the forecast period, and is expected to be more than double the size of Western Europe, the next largest market, the report says.
