FERC Rules Against Tri-State Fee on Local Renewable Power

In a unanimous decision (Docket No. EL16-39-000) issued June 16, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) struck down a fee imposed by Tri-State Generation & Transmission Association on its wholesale electric customers – among them, Delta-Montrose Electric Association (DMEA) – when purchase up to 5 percent of their power from other energy from other local qualifying facilities that generate renewable energy (such as solar or wind capacity).

More than 6.4 GW Solar Electric Capacity Installed in US

The US solar photovoltaics market installed 684 MW in the third quarter of 2012, representing 44 percent growth over the same period last year, according to a report by GTM Research and the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA).

US Solar Market Insight: Third Quarter 2012 says this quarter marked the third largest on record for the US PV industry and raised the total installed capacity through the first three quarters of the year to 1,992 MW — already surpassing 2011’s annual total of 1,885 MW.
