Energy Fund Energy ManageLeader Dogs for the Blind, located in Rochester Hills, MI, has received $56,071 in energy efficiency incentives from Consumers Energy.

The retrofits include a high efficiency central boiler, which the story at The Oakland Press says are 95 percent to 98 percent more efficient and provide better control and oversight. Another element of the project are new energy handling units. Three of the four contain energy recovery systems.

The organization also implemented an automation system and monitors with 77 independent zones. Each can provide heating and cooling as needed, track energy use and schedule downtimes when the zone is unoccupied.

Incentives are powerful tools for increasing efficiency across a utility’s customer base. Idaho Power’s Irrigation Efficiency Rewards program offers incentives for extensive retrofits of existing systems and new system installations, according to the Capital Press:

Under its Menu Incentive program, the company will pay irrigators for 11 specific sprinkler parts, from $0.25 for nozzles to $125 for a new center pivot base boot gasket, Daniel Moore, Idaho Power ag representative, told irrigators at the Agri-Action trade show on Feb. 2.

The program only applies to irrigation systems powered by electricity. Parts have to have three years of usage before they are eligible for the incentive, he said.

The incentives are limited to half of the invoice cost and to two products of the same type per acre, the story says.
