Urjanet, a utility data aggregation company, teamed up with Arconic, a Fortune 500 global technology, engineering, and advanced manufacturing company, for an innovative industrial energy data management project. Arconic built a single source of real-time energy data using automated utility invoice and interval data from Urjanet, fed into the Cotopaxi Strata system.
Urjanet CEO, Sanjoy Malik, told Energy Manager Today: “Energy data management poses a difficult challenge, especially when working with a global footprint and data coming from many sources. Arconic was able to overcome its challenges by automating data access and consolidating all aspects of data management into a single system, allowing for visibility into every angle of the company’s ongoing energy strategy. Companies working to solve their energy data management challenges need reliable data quality, security and visibility to have actionable insights to execute against. By integrating energy data into a central system, companies can optimize their operations to better pursue their energy and sustainability goals.”
Industrial energy data management is a notoriously difficult challenge. As Malik noted, by consolidating all aspects of energy management and procurement into a single system with Urjanet, Arconic has optimized operational efficiency and gained a clear lens into every angle of its energy strategy.
“Arconic is committed to ambitious energy reduction targets in this critical time, relying on advanced technology to reduce our global footprint and drive progress toward climate action goals,” said Adam Vucelich, energy services manager at Arconic.
Arconic can now manage all aspects of energy in one central system. The team can make informed, real-time decisions, and proactively plan for spikes in demand. When they notice a spike frequently occurring during a particular time of the month, they can dig into it and understand what is happening in that moment — what piece of machinery is firing up, for instance — to identify where their high demand charges are coming from, take action, and cost-effectively reduce peak demand. As a result, Arconic was able to save $13,000 at one facility in just one month.
